Our Story
In December 2014, designer JoEllen Lustig created JOLN as a reflection of her personal style and love for American Vintage.
Initially, JOLN was conceptualized as a menswear collection only, but as the prototypes were being developed, it became clear that women were craving the same sensibilities. The Reclaimed collection includes vintage items and sustainable fabrics that we have transformed into new products. The silhouettes and fabrications are universal so that regardless of whether you are living in the snow belt of Upstate New York, or the beaches of California, you can comfortably wear them all day, everyday.
The logo, JOLN, was inspired by the artist and activist Corita Kent, who cared deeply about supporting civil rights. Every garment is currently sourced and sewn in the USA with fair wages and good working conditions in each facility.
At a young age, JoEllen became obsessed with all things fashion. By high school she was designing and sewing clothing for herself and friends. After attending the University of Cincinnati for Fashion Design, she headed to New York City to work for Oscar de la Renta. Within the year, she realized that she was more interested in making clothing for the everyday person, than couture, and took a job in menswear at American Eagle Outfitters.
Over the next ten years JoEllen became known for her love of quality fabrics, getting the perfect fit, and quirky sense of humor. As her passion for menswear grew, so did her tomboy sense of style. In 2012 she was recruited to be the Senior Designer of Menswear for Lucky Brand and moved to Los Angeles, CA.
In 2014, JoEllen decided to take the leap and follow her dreams of creating a brand that was a true reflection of both her design and moral values.
